Goodbye to an old 'friend'

Well, the bastards over at 'Eon' have won and the cooling towers (a MAJOR Sheffield and Yorkshire landmark) are to be demolished at 3am tomorrow morning.

I can't even write this entry as I guarantee it wont be very pleasant to read.

Sad indeed. It will be weird to look at the viaduct from Meadowhall and not see them. Watched calendar last night[Friday], the reporter said the chimney nearer the M1 is 75ft away.Which seems a lot but it isn't really if you look how big they are next to the M1 and the road under that. Hope your well Ste. Take care love Gazzxxxx

Hi! Stevie
It is sad, but life goes on I'm afraid.
Been up to Wentworth, and came back past there just before 6.00pm. Wondered what was happening, as quite a  few people taking pictures. Then remembered why!
I think I remember you used to lived in that area? When I was married, we had a shop on Bawtry Road....
Thank you for your recent visit to my Journal
Take care
Aileen....X

Ste.....They can take away our chimneys but they'll NEVER take away our memories of them or the years we spent living beside them...

On the good side, old friends and landmarks of our youth must come down to make way for those coming after - life goes on.  Cathy

Awwwww i can imagine how you feel. I live in London and on a slightly different note i was very upset when the took down the twin towers at Wembley they were a landmark as far as we locals were concerned ....i know its slightly different as i am sure at one stage there was talk of them being moved.... but i am not sure.

Sorry that this landmark has been demolished......guess its a sign of the times...... even though we cannot phsically see them there we have the memories.
hugs Jayne

Stevie I didn't realise they meant so much to you ~ but you know those BIG companies always get what they want in the end regardless of what local people may want :o( ~ Ally x

Oh, I'm sorry Ste... Those towers were gorgeous, I don't get why the company needed THAT space... Especially if they were a pretty important Sheffield landmark! That's really too bad, though. At least you have those amazing pictures to remember them by. -Chris

Stevie,
I was mortified when I drove passed on Tuesday. I signed the petition too.
