Things seem to have calmed down here in Sheffield.
Monday's flooding came as such a shock. None of us knew what was happening. We lost power, internet, phone lines, and mobile phone lines all at once. Some homes were left without power for days. Traffic lights had stopped working so the roads were chaotic to say the least. I can't believe what I saw from some drivers eager to break out of the traffic jams they'd been stuck in for hours. I understand their frustration (cos I was stuck too at one point with Anthony and my friend Hannah) but it was scary to see how this affected everyone, namely drivers!
I was on a double decker bus stuck in traffic as it crossed the 'Lady bridge' in town. We were heading home and at that point, none of were aware of what was happening. To us, it'd just been a horrible and wet couple of days, but then the river caught my eye and it soon became apparent what was happening. I can't believe I saw the river water level SO high and actually seeping onto the streets!!
This video of our local headlines shows the road that I was on. I wish I'd had my camcorder with me!! Grrr!
Anyways, all is well now but we have been given severe weather warnings for heavy rain today and tomorrow, but today wasn't as bad as they made out, so we'll see.
My heart goes out to the 3 people who were killed that day.

I am so glad you decided to leave when you did. I've been worried, as has so many here, about you and your family. I was never so happy as I was yesterday when I realized you were all ok. Love ya babes

This is the entry I have been looking out for ,I was so concerned about you and the family ,so very pleased to hear you are all well ,That must have been so scary ,no lecy ,communication sytems all down ,and no trafic lights etc ,would be like a scary movie ,but you were living it ,I hope things improve very soon,though I fear, for many it will be a long time before things are back to normal ,take care and keep dry ..love Jan xx
Glad you are okay Ste, was thinking of you and hopeing you were not affected in any way but obviously you were. It has not stopped raining here for days either....the local brook is now a fast running river 4 times the size but so far it has only flooded fields and not much else fortunately. Love Joan
I don't know what's happening with the weather... storms and floods etc..it sure is scary though.. i am so relieved that you and yours are okay..the video and the pics your Mum posted makes your blood run cold...life is so very precious and can be gone in a minute..

Glad that you are OK, My home hasn't been affected at all, but so many people local to us. Allan works off Attercliffe Road, and was stuck at work. Should have left at 4.00pm, but Police were turning people back due to Brightside and the Wicker. He did leave around 8.30pm and made it home.
PS can you 'mail' me the link to your Mums Journal, if she still has it? as I seem to have lost it!

I am glad you are OK, Stevie, can't think what it must have been like at the time.
I've never visited your journal before, but was sad to hear about all that flooding. I'm from Texas and they are having a bout with rains also. My brother and his family live in San Antonio.
We had a bad flood here in Kentucky several years ago. The town next to mine was underwater completely the whole town all you could see were rooftops. They have seen rebuilt the town, but it was awful.
Hope all is well now and those rains that are coming don't do much more damage. Stay safe.

I'm very glad you are safe Stevie and I also feel badly for those people that were killed :( In Texas we are having the same problems with flash flooding etc. lots of property damage/loss, cattle lost, people have died also... we are just saturated here even the vegetable crops are suffering tremendously. Stevie, you have no idea how glad I was to hear from you that day. When we saw footage of what was going on, my heart immediately jumped to you and your family.
